HELL'S ANGELS Official Program

The program for HELL'S ANGELS they gave out at the premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater in 1930.

Buster Keaton was still a star in early talkies. His later decline came as a surprise to all his fans.

Will Rogers was a top star in the thirties. His career was cut short by a plane crash that also took the life of famous pilot Wiley Post.

Clara Bow was a big star in the silent era. She made a few talkies, but it just wasn't the same.

The Floradora girls were the product of an earlier era. Like the Keystone Kops, they made an occasional comeback. The Marion Davies version came out in 1930.

Ben Lyon and Bebe Daniels may be seen in this film of the premiere, as well as Buster Keaton, Wheeler and Woolsey, Joe E. Brown, Sally Eilers, and Hoot Gibson.

Technicolor Ads Listing Thelma Todd As Being In HELL'S ANGELS

These 1930 ads for Technicolor productions all listed Thelma Todd as being in HELL'S ANGELS, although Jean Harlow was not always mentioned. And where she is mentioned at all they misspelled her name.

I may not have all these ads in the right order, as I do not have the exact dates they were published.

Dennis King is pictured on this ad. FILM DAILY Jan- May 1930

Dennis King would later appear in THE DEVIL'S BROTHER along with Laurel and Hardy and Thelma Todd.

MOTION PICTURE Jan - March 1930

Note that the add calls Jean Harlow "Jean Marlow".

FILM DAILY Jan- May 1930

The ads would continue to repeat the misspelling of Jean Harlow's last name for some time, as well as continuing to list Thelma Todd as being among the cast of HELL'S ANGELS.

Bebe Daniels, who married Ben Lyon that year, is shown on the back of MOTION PICTURE NEWS April-July 1930

Thelma Todd Mentioned In Hell's Angels Cast

Thelma Todd is mentioned as being among the cast of HELL'S ANGELS in a number of fan magazines at different stages of the production.

In the upper part of the center of the page is an early announcement of HELL'S ANGELS which mentions both Greta Nyssen and Thelma Todd.

MOTION PICTURE CLASSIC, July -December 1928 according to Lantern Media.

Is this Lon Chaney Duck scientifically accurate? I think not. Nor indeed do I think it was used in any duck tale of any kind, being a picture for publicity only.

In the middle of this page is an announcement that HELL'S ANGELS is being completed, with both Greta Nyssen and Thelma Todd mentioned as being among the cast.
MOTION PICTURE NEWS from Lantern Media, with the imprecise date of July - September 1928.

This announcement must have been premature as Jean Harlow was used in the sound version.

At the lower right-hand side of the page is an announcement that HELL'S ANGELS has been completed, with Thelma Todd stated to be among the cast.
MOTION PICTURE NEWS May 10, 1930.

Thelma Todd was not among the cast of the finished movie.
