Columbia Short Subjects Ads

Columbia's Krazy Kat was promoted above Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse, which was also being distributed by Columbia at this time.

At this point Krazy Kat was made to resemble Felix the Cat, a character that went into a decline after the coming of sound.

SCREEN SNAPSHOTS was popular at the time.

The Three Stooges had the longest-running comedy film series in history.

Elsie Ames, shown with Buster Keaton at the bottom, costarred with Buster Keaton and Harry Langdon and is given equal billing with them in this ad.

The Brewster Twins

The Brewster twins were termed "The most beautiful twins in America", and had careers in movies, usually working together.

Their career began in the Buster Keaton comedy DITTO, in which they play twin girls who Buster Keaton confuses with each other.

The Brewster sisters also had some association with the Three Stooges. Barbara Brewster appeared with Moe, Larry and Curly in SCREEN SNAPSHOTS series !9 #6, and also appeared in THE FLAME OF NEW ORLEANS, which costarred Shemp. The Brewster sisters also toured with the Three Stooges in 20th Century Fox promotions and entertained the troops on foreign soil in USO shows during World War II.

The girl here doesn't look that much like Thelma Todd. It looks as much like the illustrations in Thorne Smith books as anything, but then it's around the same time.

Sally Rand was in the news, so they stuck fan dancing in this movie. Ginger Rogers was about to make a movie with Fred Astaire and become a big star, but at this time was an also-ran.

"It" was what they said Clara Bow had, but that was at the same studio.

Thelma Todd was prominently featured in the publicity, but had only a small part in the movie.

Thelma Todd appeared in SCREEN SNAPSHOTS along with many others.
