Thelma Todd Family Cabin - Winter Pictures

A couple more pictures from Michael Lentz, who now owns the cabin that used to belong to Thelma Todd's family.

The lake is covered with ice.

Thelma Todd Letter

Thelma Todd wrote letters to various people, including fans. Here is a letter Thelma Todd wrote on her own stationary to a Miss Heidorn, who I believe was Lee Heidorn, head of the Billie Dove Fan Club.

Autograph Thelma Todd Letters

There are some copies of Thelma Todd's hand-written letters in the FBI files. Here are a few notes and letters in her own writing.

This one appears to be a note sent to a fan, possibly along with the photograph.

A note to Thelma Todd's friend Billie Dove, dated 1929.

The note to Billie Dove, at a larger size.

Letter on a menu from Thelma Todd's Sidewalk Café.

Letter on "Joyita" stationary. The Joyita was Roland West's yacht,

which was used in the movie CORSAIR in 1931.

A letter to Zasu Pitts, which was published in MODERN SCREEN in 1931.

Marilyn Monroe In MUTT AND JEFF

A Marilyn Monroe appearance in the comic strip MUTT AND JEFF.

You see Marilyn Monroe turn up as a character in a number of comic strips and comic books from that period. That in addition to where they were drawing Marilyn Monroe without using her name.

POPEYE'S HOW TO DRAW CARTOONS By Joe Musial

POPEYE'S HOW TO DRAW CARTOONS is a little book that shows you how to do just that. The author was one of the artists who worked on the Popeye comic strip, which had been originated by E.C. Segar.

These caricatures were familiar faces to people of that day. From the left, top: Charlie Chaplin, Will Rogers, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. From the left, bottom: George Arliss, W. C. Fields, Irvin S. Cobb, and Babe Ruth.

The creator of Popeye had at one time been a movie projectionist and his work was influenced to some extent by the movies. Segar at one time drew Charlie Chaplin comics. His most popular comic strip ( which introduced Popeye ) "Thimble Theater" had a name reminiscent of Ed Wheelan's "Minute Movies". The version of Olive Oyl seen in animated cartoons was clearly influenced by Zasu Pitts. Bluto was more or less a stock heavy such as Eric Campbell had played in silent movies. Oliver Hardy had also played the same type before being teamed with Stan Laurel at the Hal Roach studio.
