SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN Photoplay

Novels published with pictures from the movie versions were called "Photoplays". The photoplay edition of SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN was illustrated with pictures from the movie with Thelma Todd. The blonde girl depicted on the dust jacket is also a representation of Thelma Todd. The text describes the heroine of the tale as being a brunette.

A. Merrit inscription on the flyleaf of a copy he gave to a fellow author:

This copy inscribed on the front free end paper to author and friend T. Everett Harre: "To Everett Harre / Hoping he'll / enjoy this glimpse / into a purely / private hell / A. Merritt." - See more at: http://www.jwkbooks.com/pages/books/11445/abraham-merritt/seven-footprints-to-satan#sthash.u0IPh5Tf.dpuf

A. Merritt was a famous author in his day, but today his books are somewhat obscure and read primarily by fans of archaic fantasy. He was a peculiar fellow who was preoccupied with the weird and horrible. I can't say that I would recommend his books to the squeamish.
