Thelma Todd Photo

A Thelma Todd publicity photo from the Hal Roach studio in the early days of sound. The idea here is that she's in an oyster shell with a bunch of pearls, which here seem to be called jewels. "Joya" is jewel in Spanish, and the name "Joya" was on Thelma Todd's Sidewalk Cafe was because of Jewel Carmen, who financed it. Likewise Roland West's yacht "Joyita" was named for her: Joyita means "little jewel".

BEYOND VICTORY

BEYOND VICTORY was the first of several movies to team James Gleason with Zasu Pitts. Thelma Todd seems to have been considered for the movie as well.

Thelma Todd And Raquel Torres Page

Thelma Todd and Raquel Torres are pictured together on the page of a foreign fan magazine. The picture of Thelma Todd looks like it might be from VAMPING VENUS. Raquel Torres worked with the Marx Brothers in DUCK SOUP. I may have seen her in other things, but that's what I remember right off.

Here we see where the retoucher has put white outlines around the figures to make them stand out from the background when the picture is printed in a newspaper or magazine.

AFTER THE DANCE Photos

AFTER THE DANCE was a 1935 Columbia production starring George Murphy and Nancy Carroll, which also had Thelma Todd in the cast. Here are some photos which an ebay seller decorated with lines of letters.

This one appears to have been done as an advertisement for Lucky Strike cigarettes. You can just about make out the names on the boxes.
