VAMPING VENUS Pictures

More pictures from VAMPING VENUS.

The form divine juxtaposed with junk in an antique photo intended to invoke antiquity.

Reblogged from https://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/538925.html

This one has been on the blog before.

But without this caption:

Thelma Todd, Catherine Hunter, and Robert H. Wagner in Vamping Venus (1928)

I knew who the other people were. Catherine Hunter and Rob Wagner were two of Thelma Todd's friends who wrote about her in the fan magazines. But somehow I missed the Venus connection, although you can see in this picture that she has the same hairdo.

Thelma Todd Fashion Photo

Thelma Todd in a fashion photo from when she was working for First National around the time that sound came in. Someone wrote "Alison Loyd" on the back of the photo ( evidently unsure of the spelling ) and later crossed it out again as Thelma Todd was no longer using that name, which was associated with the movie CORSAIR.

Thelma Todd With Joe E. Brown

This is a publicity picture for SON OF A SAILOR, in which Thelma Todd played a foreign spy and wore a brunette wig.

"Vitaphone" referred originally to a sound on disc process, but the name continued to be used by Warner Brothers after the system was replaced by sound on film. The name First National likewise continued to be used after that studio had merged with Warner Brothers. The old First National logo with the ring around the country may be seen at the bottom of this picture.

SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN Ad

SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN ad in Portuguese from a Brazilian newspaper.

1929 - SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN - Benjamin Christensen - (JORNAL DO BRASIL, Friday, June 7, 1929, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

The ad shows Thelma Todd in the clutches of a gorilla, with Creighton Hale coming to her aid. Note the reference to "Vitaphone" in the ad. Although this film has been referred to as a talkie, it was actually a silent movie with musical soundtrack on vitaphone records played in sync with the film.
