MOTION PICTURE interviews Thelma Todd and finds that she has some complaints about some of the goings-on that were going on in Hollywood.

"Degeneracy" refers to sex perversion, something that people thought of as being associated with Hollywood.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Few people had home movies at that time. Those would become more common later on. 8mm film ( the more usual home movie film format ) wasn't even introduced until 1932.

MOTION PICTURE September 1935 - Thelma Todd as Lillian Russell

There had been another reference to Thelma Todd as Lillian Russell in MOTION PICTURE in September 1935. So it seem to have been a recurring thing in that magazine.

Cellophane seemed more glamorous when it was new.

Thelma Todd is likened to Lillian Russell on the last page. It could be because of the then-current movie DIAMOND JIM, which had Binnie Barnes playing Lillian Russell.

And Lillian Russell herself, a glamour girl whose day was before the others.

I thought Paula Stone ( who was in a picture on the last page of the article ) was cute, we've had her on the blog before, in another picture from MOTION PICTURE. One that had Thelma Todd in it.

This happens to be the same issue the Pat O'Brien article was in that I put on the blog the other day.

MOTION PICTURE March 1936: Pat O'Brien

Here's an article about Pat O'Brien from the March 1936 issue of MOTION PICTURE which mentions Ted Healy as someone Pat O'Brien associated with. This is a little after the death of Thelma Todd, but Pat O'Brien used to know her, and it looks like he knew Ted Healy, too. Just thought I'd put that in after the other stuff I'd put on the blog about Ted Healy.

 

 

 

 

 I haven't seen CEILING ZERO, but I like June Travis.

 

 

 

DIAMOND JIM was a movie where Binnie Barnes played Lillian Russell. It was a recent movie at the time this magazine was published.
