Plaque For The Mabel Normand Soundstage

They named a stage after Mabel Normand at the old Republic studio, which used to be the Mack Sennett studio before Republic got it. Here is the name plaque from this stage.

Mabel Normand Magazine Article

Something about Mabel Normand by Adela Rogers St. Johns from PHOTOPLAY July - Dec. 1921.

I believe "cash girl" ( second column, top ) means "cashier".

Spanky And Alfalfa With Zeffie Tilbury

SECOND CHILDHOOD was an Our Gang comedy in which Spanky and his friends befriend a lonely old lady played by Zeffie Tilbury and bring happiness into her life.  Here is a publicity photo from this film with the original caption.

In the same year Zeffie Tilbury also portrayed the Gypsy Queen in THE BOEMIAN GIRL: Thelma Todd played the Gypsy Queen's daughter.

Thelma Todd With Joe E. Brown

This is a publicity picture for SON OF A SAILOR, in which Thelma Todd played a foreign spy and wore a brunette wig.

"Vitaphone" referred originally to a sound on disc process, but the name continued to be used by Warner Brothers after the system was replaced by sound on film. The name First National likewise continued to be used after that studio had merged with Warner Brothers. The old First National logo with the ring around the country may be seen at the bottom of this picture.

Jean Darling's Art Needlework Outfit

A number of Our Gang related items were available while the comedies were being made. This is one of them.

Ebay seller's description:

This is a darling little piece of doll sewing history. As for as I can tell, the kit is complete except for the mini doll. The box is stamped 1931 by the Standard Solophone company.
The kit includes embroidery hoops, silk embroidery flosses, thimble, needles (a bit rusty) and 12 different stamped motifs to be embroidered and sewn. One piece has a few stitches in it already.
The box measures 18" x 10.5".

Jean Darling Leaves Our Gang To Freelance

Jean Darling left Hal Roach and Our Gang for other roles, in which she was to find success.

Jean Darling Lookalike

The little girl on the left was Toronto's choice to play Jean Darling. This was part of a campaign to get kids in different city to impersonate the Our Gang kids. The idea was that the impersonators would themselves attempt to make their own comedy film.

The historic photo was taken at the Hal Roach studio in 1929. It shows Laurel and Hardy showing the then new sound equipment to members of "Our Gang." Gangsters left to right: Harry Spear, Mary Ann Jackson, Alan "Farina" Hoskins, Pete the Pup, Joe Cobb, Jean Darling. Sound engineer Elmer Raguse is at the controls of the RCA sound truck. The Hal Roach Studio dressing rooms are in the background.

Our Gang's Spanky McFarland and Pete the Pup - 1932

Spanky McFarland

Spanky McFarland was one of the Our Gang kids. And he worked with Thelma Todd, too.

He was in the last film of the series with Zasu Pitts, ONE TRACK MINDS.

And here he is with Patsy Kelly, who replaced Zasu Pitts in the series. At left is director Gus Meins. I believe the costume Thelma Todd is wearing is from MAID IN HOLLYWOOD.

According to the caption the other boy is Spanky's brother, Tommy.
