An autographed photo. I don't claim to be an expert, but I doubt that this was autographed by Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd. A great many "autographed" movie star photos were actually signed by others and sent out to fans by the studios.

Pitts - Todd Split Item

Newspaper item mentioning that Zasu Pitts was leaving the series for financial reasons. Thelma Todd was actually in England at the time and was not consulted by the studio, which replaced Zasu Pitts with Patsy Kelly.

Una Merkel, who had made COMMAND PERFORMANCE with Thelma Todd in 1931, did not appear in the series at the Roach studio. She later made some short subjects at Columbia.

The large photo I believe was shot outside on the Hal Roach studio lot. The other pictures show Thelma Todd with Zasu Pitts from one of their short subjects, Thelma Todd with Richard Dix from THE GAY DEFENDER, and the last shows her with Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante with SPEAK EASILY.

From School Teacher To Actress

A publicity item about Thelma Todd, which was published in an Australian newspaper.

Williamstown Chronicle (Vic. : 1856 - 1954), Saturday 2 December 1933

At the time that this article was published, Thelma Todd was working with Patsy Kelly rather than Zasu Pitts. Hal Roach had hired Patsy Kelly as a replacement while Thelma Todd was in England, rather than giving Zasu Pitts a raise.

Roach Productions - FILM DAILY April 19, 1932

"40 in Two And Three Reels On New Roach Program" at middle right tells about Roach's productions for that time. Note that Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd only made one three - reeler, LET'S DO THINGS, in 1931.

"Tieing In Of Shorts Defended As Economy" at lower left is another item about Roach.

 

 

 

The article about two and three reelers is continued this page at middle left. Note that Spanky McFarland was in "Our Gang" comedies and didn't have a separate series. 

Another item is about Paramount's establishment of a training school for talent. Thelma Todd entered the movies through an earlier effort of this sort by Paramount.

IT IS ALMOST 80 YEARS OLD! 
 It measures 8 1/2 X 11" and is 2 page with original paper clip  with a small paper attached with film title.  It is dated December 7, 1933.
This is all typed and it's one page of credits, one page of synopsis  It was used to promote the 1934 Comedy film short,

Babes in the Goods

Thelma and Patsy get jobs demonstrating washing machines in a department store window. However, on their first day on the job, they accidentally get locked in the store overnight.

SEAL SKINS

SEAL SKINS is a Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd comedy, made in 1932. The story involves a stolen seal, which is mistaken for a stolen seal of the type used to leave imprints on important documents by royalty.

1932 Roach Releases, Including The Boy Friends

This is the same ad for Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd that we had here before, but this time there's also an ad for "The Boy Friends" and Harry Lauder as well. I think this is also a different Our Gang ad.

Harry Lauder was a famous Scottish comedian.
