Autographed To Richard Currier

Posted by Jim Kerkoff in the Thelma Todd Fan Group on facebook.

In 1932 Roach’s supervising editor, Richard Currier, was fired by studio manager Henry Ginsburg. Ginsburg had already let a number of staff go to trim costs. Without going into the particular excuse he used for Dick’s release, Thelma gave him this photo on his way out the door. It’s hand-colored in oil. Beneath her arm on the top of the wall she wrote “To Dickie, In Memoriam, Thelma Todd”. I had the good fortune to know Dick quite well in his later years, and he gave this wonderful picture to me as a gift. Unfortunately ink from Thelma’s fountain pen had a difficult time penetrating the oil, so there is just a ghost of her inscription remaining. But it’s definitely still there!
